B&B Accommodation

B&B accommodation is provided in two double bedrooms.
One has an 'ensuite' bathroom, the other has a private bathroom, less than 1 yard (1m) from the bedroom door.  Both rooms have 4' 6"-wide (137cm) double beds.  Click here to see more of the rooms.

The cottage is surrounded by gardens and is in a peaceful and tranquil setting. It has comfortable beamed bedrooms with modern new bathroom facilities and well-lit, pretty rooms.  Yew Tree Cottage has been awarded the English Tourist Council’s ("VisitBritain") five star Accommodation Award for 2008 and a Silver Award once again.

Teas and Dinners

As well as traditional Cotswolds B&B we also enjoy producing kitchen suppers for guests who would prefer to stay at home some evenings. These may be traditional roasts, casseroles, or steak & kidney pie followed by hot choc puds. Click here for a sample menu, but don't hesitate to ask if there's something else you fancy.

Pubs and restaurants in the area cover just about every cuisine and price range imaginable. We have a brief listing of our local recommendations and links to those with websites. So, supplement traditional Cotswolds B&B with dinner 'at home' one evening, or pop out to one of the many great local pubs and restaurants.

Location
Just two miles from Northleach, with its unspoiled village atmosphere and historic Wool Church, Yew Tree Cottage is very well placed for touring all the local Cotswold villages. We are equidistant some 30 miles from both Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Trips to either Bourton or Stow can be supplemented with meandering tours of the beautiful local villages, by car or foot!

Local Attractions and Activities

This is excellent walking country with well-marked local paths as well as the longer-distance Cotswold, Macmillan, Diamond, Windrush, Gloucestershire and Warden’s Ways all in close proximity. Yew Tree Cottage is just 45 minutes walk from the local pub, or five minutes by car! (We find that guests quite often like to walk to the pub and get us to pick them up later.)  Or if you fancy taking a spin we have a couple of bikes that you are welcome to borrow.

Batsford, Hidcote and Kiftsgate Gardens are all close by. Antique hunting in both Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-the-Marsh can be particularly fruitful. Cirencester and Regency Cheltenham should not be missed and visits to the Cotswold Farm Park and the Roman Villa at Chedworth (NT) are popular too.

Day visits to Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle and Oxford are all easy from Turkdean.  Overseas visitors often astonish us by including Stonehenge and Windsor in their itineraries too. Click here for a selection of local attractions that we hope might interest you.

Canine B&B

Yew Tree Cottage is currently home to two black labradors, Gulliver and Bee.  Gulliver is now somewhat larger than in the photo on the right. He is exceptionally friendly and enjoys the company of guests, both human and canine - but if you are not keen on dogs, or you are sadly afflicted by pet allergies, Yew Tree Cottage may not be the best place...

We don't allow dogs in bedrooms, but we do have a super kennel "suite" where your dogs are very welcome to stay for some canine B&B too.


Alice (on the left in the picture here with Gulliver) had a litter of five beautiful new puppies on 9th June 2005 and you can see more of the 2004 and 2005 litters here. Sadly, however, Alice died very suddenly in November 2006.  This briefly left Gulliver as the sole labrador in command at Yew Tree... but he now looks back fondly on that time as he was joined by Bee (in the picture on the right) in Spring 2007 and she gives him a good run for his money!


A metropolitan friend, Atticus, also comes down to Gloucestershire for a week here and there to recover from the travails of his London life.

Atticus is a cocker spaniel, but he suffers from a strange canine delusional fixation and labours under the belief that he is, in fact, the long-lost HCH Prince Atticus of Elden. 

Nevertheless, noblesse oblige, so Atticus has come to accept that there are joys in slumming it with his labrador friends in the country from time to time. Principally mud.

Cotswolds B&B Costs

In order to encourage slightly longer stays we introduced a new rate structure in 2007 and we now make a higher charge of £80.00/room for the first night of a booking (including breakfast of course!) and then we charge £70.00/room for all subsequent nights for a double room.  Similarly, if a room is booked for single occupancy we make a £60.00 charge for the first night's stay and £50.00 for subsequent nights.

Kitchen suppers are also available for £25.00 per person - but you do need to let us know if you would like dinner at least a couple of days in advance to enable adequate preparation! Check out our rates in detail here.

We are open all year and you can check our 'Availability' page to see if we have a room available for the nights that you are interested in. However, we only update the availability page at most once per day, so do please e-mail, or telephone us to confirm our latest room availability and to make your booking.
